Leslie (Les) Motts was a long time and much loved user of Balance Support's services, who sadly passed away in March this year. We are raising money to plant a plum tree in his memory at The Stud Community Garden.
Les loved nothing more than a pint (or two) of his favourite San Miguel in his local pub, whilst chatting with some of the regulars; however, many people may not have known about his love for animals, nature and travelling. His biggest dream was to have his own plum tree and to visit Australia and Spain, which we believe was in part down to finding the perfect pint of San Miguel or Rum and Coke!
Les joined us at Balance over a decade ago and his cheeky laugh was always a fond memory of his support workers. During his time with us, he spent many years going to a variety shops, looking for very specific and sometimes peculiar things - such as camel wool bedding or another country and western film to add to his ever-growing collection.
His love of nature flourished when he was supported to visit a number of different garden centres in the area, a day out undoubtably finished off with the perfect pint and roast dinner every Sunday without fail. He also took time out to enjoy the finer things, and enjoyed many wonderful Christmases at the luxury Richmond Hill Hotel, enjoying an extra 2 weeks of luxury every year!
We were all immensely saddened by his passing and he is still missed every day. We reminisce about his cheekiness and stubborn ways, feeling grateful that we could support him until the very end.
Since one of Les’ biggest wishes was to have his own plum tree and grow his own plums, we are raising money to make his wish a reality and do it in his honour.
Donations from this appeal will go towards planting his tree, with a long term plan to use the produce from it in our very own kitchen to make treats for people to enjoy. Any the profit made from the sale of these products would then be put back into the charity, to help us to support even more people like Les, to live the lives they choose.

Dear Funder,
Balance, like any other charity is dependent on the alliances and support it builds to develop its services, underpin its ethos and shape its future.
Public donations are a critical part of paying for the little extra’s that ensure we can go that bit further in keeping our work creative, flexible and centred on those who need it most. It costs the charity a minimum of £30 for every hour of support we provide, with 84% of our income directly funding the staff that provide essential social care. So you can be confident of how we invest your money, £9 of every £10 you give will go directly to funding client facing services.
Work with us in our efforts to provide truly creative and person centred services. Every donation whether a one off or a regular monthly investment will ensure our critical work can continue.
Thank you for your support.
